Introduction to the CASPER® Service Program

CASPER® is a vessel / hull performance analysis service.


Certain vessel performance data is collected by the crew while sailing, using our proprietary instructions and then forwarded to our technical offices by email or web interface. Our performance data format is a highly evolved procedure that improves the crew's ability to record accurate parameters.

Going beyond trends, this data is then analyzed onshore, using our advanced computerized methods in conjunction with the ship particulars and sea trial data. Reports are submitted to the ship's technical staff at regular intervals.  Typically, these reports include accurate figures for the speed / fuel penalty due to hull and propeller fouling as well as what benefits (in terms of reduced fuel consumption or higher service speeds) are attainable by propeller polishing and hull cleaning.  In addition, we offer Sea Trial Analysis, Drydock Analysis, Trim Optimization, CO2 indexing (redefined as "EEOI", Energy Efficiency Operational Index) and validation of Charter Party (speed, draft, consumption) description. Our customers save money by acting on the information in our reports, not by merely knowing trends.


With volatile fuel prices, demands to reduce emissions, the advent of environmentally-friendly hull coatings and new hull cleaning technologies, Propulsion Dynamics fulfills a capability gap in cost-benefit of the aforementioned topics.  Defending against speed claims as a result of hull fouling are also a benefit of Hull Resistance Management. 

Like many other high-technology products and services, while the technology itself can be noteworthy, the real value is the innovative way in which our clients utilize the information.  Here are some ways clients use our reporting service.

- Evaluate how different hull pretreatments are affecting fuel efficiency;

- Compare the Total Ownership Cost of underwater coating systems and establish when it pays to clean hulls and polish propellers;

- Assess the true parameters in slow steaming optimization;

- Implementing a CO2 index based on speed, displacement and propulsion condition.
