Do you know your ship?...

The average Aframax tanker can save 4.2 tons of fuel per day by cleaning the hull / propeller; and save 7.2 tons per day by full blasting the hull in drydock.

The average Suezmax tanker can save 5.1 tons of fuel per day by cleaning the hull / propeller; and save 9.8 tons per day by full blasting the hull in drydock.

The average VLCC tanker can save 5.9 tons of fuel per day by cleaning the hull / propeller; and 18.2 tons per day by full blasting the hull in drydock.

The average Panamax containership can save 14.1 tons per day of fuel by cleaning the hull / propeller and 44 tons per day by full blasting the hull in drydock.

How many tons per day excess fuel consumption are your ships experiencing in relation to design speed and draft?          How much speed have your ships lost since delivery? Our customers know this information with an accuracy that is unmatched by any other system as well as what to do about it now.

The CASPER Service provides Technical and Commercial Managers with the information they need to conserve fuel and reduce emissions in a changing technology environment for drydock treatment, planned maintenance and performance monitoring systems.

How our Service Works

Our business is a turnkey service, named "CASPER" (Computerized Analysis of Ship PERformance).  In brief; vessel performance data recorded at periodic intervals while sailing is forwarded to our offices for state-of-the-art naval architectural analysis, resulting in precise calculations of Speed, Fuel Consumption and Resistance. Our products are CASPER Reports that provide Owners / Operators and Shipmanagers with unprecedented decision-support: for technical and sustainability programs.  The "Resistance" of a vessel provides for a non-dimensional and scientifically sound measurement of true speed through water and corresponding fuel consumption - a Key Performance Indicator for all propulsion efficiency metrics.

Benefits of the CASPER Service

For Ship Owners:

  • Evaluates Total Ownership Cost for investments made in drydock;
  • Establishes optimal intervals for hull and / or propeller cleanings in service;
  • Implements a tangible fleet-wide CO2 Maintenance Index related to hull and propeller condition.

For Chartered-Out Vessels:

  • Actualizes highest charter rate possible, based on true performance;
  • Projecting speed losses over time due to hull and propeller condition and defined weather allowances;
  • Furnishes your charterers with 3rd party documentation of actual propulsion efficiency and CO2 index.

In addition to our unique performance data collection format (which eliminates common errors), we calculate one figure known as the "added resistance"  which is independent of speed, weather and draft and therefore, describes the condition of the hull and propeller in a meaningful way. No 'monitoring system' alone can accomplish this, yet our services are compatible with all monitoring and data recording systems.
